RUSTON – North Louisiana Specialty Hospital has been sold to LifeCare Holdings. The Plano, Texas firm says it will retain the 300 employees.

The hospital has satellite locations in Farmerville and Homer and is one of seven facilities purchased by LifeCare from HealthSouth Corp. of Birmingham for $117.5 million.

LifeCare Specialty Hospital of North Louisiana opened 18 years ago primarily as a rehabilitation facility, but it now operates as a long-term acute care facility for patients with severe injuries or acute illnesses.

The hospital’s three locations have a combined 70 beds.

LifeCare operates 27 long term acute care hospitals located in 10 states.

Mark Rice remains as chief executive of the Ruston facility.
