The Christmas season was ushered in this year with the annual lighting ceremonies in both the City of Morgan City and the Town of Berwick on Thursday evening. Beth Barbier, 8, turned on the ceremonial switch in Morgan City, while Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus flipped the switch across the Atchafalaya in Berwick. Santa took the time to hear the Christmas wishes of youngsters during both ceremonies, too. On Sunday at 6 p.m., the City of Patterson will host lighting ceremonies at City Hall, 1314 Main St. Jayden Cameron Watson and Dominque Sheldon, both Patterson residents and students in Bayou Vista Elementary special education class, will give the signal to illuminate the lights. Santa also will be on hand to speak with the children and hand out goodies.
