The sheriff’s office says a father and son who never returned from a fishing trip apparently died when lightning struck near a small tin building where they took shelter from a thunderstorm.
Wildlife and Fisheries agents found the bodies of 54-year-old Luther Baham, Sr. of Kentwood and 33-year-old Luther Baham, Jr. of Hammond on Thursday, about an hour after they were reported missing.
They were found in in a dilapidated camp on the Natalbany River.
Sheriff Daniel Edwards said He says they went fishing Wednesday, and called a relative that afternoon to say they were looking for shelter from a storm.
They made contact with family members yesterday at approximately 2:15 PM. They stated that they were on the Natalbany River and the weather was getting bad, so they were going to find shelter nearby and abandoned camp.
