Lillian Shields was born Aug. 15, 1921, to the late Rose Willis and Alex Booker and adopted and raised by Isadora and Edward Johnson. She departed this life Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at the home of her daughter in Bethesda, Md. A native of Charenton, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Wilson “Jack” Shields on Feb. 20, 1946. Together they had seven children.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1975. Three of her children, Gloria Jones, Bruce Wilson Shields and Rickey Edward Shields; a grandson, Marcus Jones III; and a brother, Lawrence Prince, also preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. John Baptist Church, Charenton, for most of her life and became a member of Takoma Park Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Patricia Gibbs and son-in-law Paul Gibbs of Washington, D.C., and Clara Valenzuela and son-in-law Ives Valenzuela, Bethesda, Md.; sons Gary Shields of Sunset, Fla., and Curtis Shields of Los Angeles; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Lillian will be interred at the Parklawn Memorial Park in Rockville, Md.
