Six local high school junior varsity baseball squads participated in a JV baseball jamboree at Morgan City High School.
Morgan City went undefeated in two, three-inning games, with a 6-0 victory against Frankin and a 10-0 win against West St. Mary in the nightcap.
Berwick and Patterson both went 1-1. Berwick defeated Hanson, 7-1, and fell to Franklin, 1-0. Patterson dropped a 4-0 decision to Hanson and defeated West St. Mary, 5-0.
In Patterson’s 4-0 loss to Hanson, Hanson scored all four runs in the top of the first inning.
Patterson committed four errors in the loss.
Justin Morvant led Paterson at the plate with a single.
On the mound, Micah Gowan was saddled with the loss. In one inning, he surrendered four runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks.
In relief, PHS’ Spencer Landry, threw two innings and surrendered two hits, one walk and struck out five.
Against West St. Mary, the ’Jacks scored five runs on two hits. The ’Jacks scored four runs in the first inning and added another in the second.
The Patterson offense benefited from four West St. Mary errors.
Blaine Lauback and Chase Perry led the ’Jacks with a double apiece.
On the mound, Chase Martin picked up the win for Patterson. In three innings, he surrendered one hit and struck out six.
Varsity softball action is scheduled to resume today as Central Catholic and Morgan City High School will meet this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in the Assumption Jamboree.
The jamboree is expected to continue Saturday for CCHS as the Lady Eagles will meet Vandebilt Catholic at 10 a.m.
The Berwick High School softball squad is also scheduled to participate in the Teurlings Catholic Jamboree on Saturday.
Local varsity baseball squads also will hit the diamond this weekend when they participate in the Morgan City Jamboree at Tiger Diamond.
Patterson, Morgan City, Berwick, Hanson, Assumption, Franklin and West St. Mary all will participate in the event.
The action begins at 9 a.m. when Patterson will meet Morgan City, while Patterson and Berwick will meet at 10:20 a.m.
At 11:40 a.m., Berwick and Hanson will hit the field, while at 1 p.m., Assumption and Franklin will meet.
At 2:20 p.m., Hanson and Assumption will play, followed by Franklin and West St. Mary at 3:40 p.m. and Morgan City and West St. Mary at 5 p.m.
All games either will be three innings or a one hour and 15 minute time limit.
While the jamboree schedule has not changed, MCHS coach Marc Gonzales said the jamboree may be moved to Sunday if inclement weather plagues the area. Any changes will be posted on The Daily Review’s Facebook page as well as at www.stmarynow.com in the sports section.
The Central Catholic baseball squad also will be in action this weekend when they play in the Central Lafourche Jamboree on Saturday at 9 a.m. in Matthews.
