Local young women to vie for festival crown

Six local young women will vie for the title of 77th Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Queen on Saturday in the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium ballroom. The coronation ball will begin at 9 p.m. Tickets are available for $30 by calling 385-0703.

Maids vying for the title include:

Alison Marie Bergeron is the 19-year-old daughter of Steven and Lois Bergeron of Morgan City.

The Central Catholic High School graduate attends Nicholls State University in Thibodaux majoring in marketing.

During her active years at CCHS, she was as an officer each year on Student Council, serving her senior year as executive president. She was Drama Club vice president and president, Students Against Destructive Decisions treasurer, band percussionist and drum captain, and dance team lieutenant.

Bergeron was also a member of Key Club, Quiz Bowl and yearbook.

She lettered in bowling, cross country, softball, dance team and band.

The Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership award winner attended Youth Leadership Day at the Louisiana capitol, participated in district and state Literary Rally, attended Louisiana Girls State and numerous diocese functions.

Bergeron’s principal’s list status earned her membership to The National Honor Society. She volunteered for many civic projects including Zoo-to-Boo, Coats for Kids and Toys for Tots.

Her awards are numerous and include the American Legion Auxiliary Good Citizenship Award, H&B Young Foundation scholarship, CCHS Shining Star, American Dance and Drill Team Academic All American, Dr. Mario Lopez Service Award, TOPS and East St. Mary Kiwanis Club scholarships and many more.

She was 2011 CCHS Prom queen.

At NSU, she maintains president’s list and is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta National Academic Honor Society and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.

Her interests include painting, welding, cooking and photography.

Carlie Marie Dupre is the 20-year-old daughter of Oren J. and Frances G. Dupre of Morgan City.

She is a CCHS graduate and earned a practical nursing certificate from L.E. Fletcher Community College. She attends the Academy of Acadiana majoring in Nursing. She is certified in CPR and Safe Environment.

During her high school years, Dupre was a member of Student Council and Drama Club. She participated on the swim, volleyball and basketball teams.

Dupre served as SADD vice president and senior class president.

She was on the Youth Advisory Council and served as St. Mary Parish Relay for Life board member.

Honors earned included the Catholic Daughters of the Americas scholarship and Houma-Thibodaux Diocesan Youth Leadership Award.

Her civic projects include volunteering with Girl Scout Troop 20182 and Morgan City Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She is also a part-time employee at M C Bank.

Her interests include spending time with family and friends.

Chloe Felterman is the 19-year-old daughter of Michael and Sharon Felterman of Patterson.

The CCHS graduate is a sophomore at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where she is majoring in English with a minor in theater.

While at CCHS, Felterman was SADD president, Student Council freshman and sophomore president, Theater Club vice president and a retreat team leader. She was also a member of Key Club.

She attended Louisiana Girls State and Christian Leadership Institute. She was a member of the State Youth Advisory Council and participated in Free Enterprise Week at NSU where she received an internship to Washington, D.C. She participated in Study Abroad Europe through NSU.

At LSU, she is a member of STRIPES.

Her hobbies include fishing, scrapbooking, and attending LSU events.

Emily Lancon is the 19-year-old daughter of B.J. Castaneda and Wayne Lancon of Morgan City.

She is a graduate of Berwick High School.

As a Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond student she is majoring in chemistry with a concentration in forensics.

Her interests include swimming, drawing and painting.

Samantha Grace Napoli is the 20-year-old daughter of Karen and Bill Marin of Patterson and Sam Napoli.

The Patterson High School summa cum laude graduate attends LSU majoring in Mass Communications with a concentration in Journalism and a minor in geography.

During her years at PHS, Napoli was an 8th Degree Cracker Jack, a member of the All-State Academic Composite Volleyball Team, a Universal Cheerleading Association All American and Senior Class Favorite.

She was a member of National Honor Society and was Student Council executive president.

Napoli attended Rotary Youth Leadership Award Camp and Louisiana Youth Seminar. She earned the American Petroleum Institute Scholarship, St. Mary Parish Principals’ Association Scholarship, LSU Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship and Robert C. Byrd Scholarship.

At LSU, she is a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, Habitat for Humanity, Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Society, National Society of Leadership and is a STRIPES Leader.

The former Patterson Cypress Sawmill Festival queen enjoys painting, hydro sliding, knee boarding, reading, cooking and learning about other cultures.

She works at Patterson State Bank.

Sarah Catherine Watson is the 19-year-old daughter of Beau and Julie Theriot Watson of Morgan City.

She is a graduate of CCHS and attends LSU majoring in bio-chemistry.

At CCHS, Watson was Key Club president, SADD secretary and a retreat team leader. She was a member of Drama Club, Campus Ministry, yearbook, choir, homecoming and prom court, and was the CCHS mascot.

She was on the tennis, bowling and cross country teams.

Watson participated in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine, Christine Leadership Institute, and a Pro-Life March in Washington, D.C.

Her interests include reading, outdoor activities, baking, acting, singing and dancing.
