Locals to compete in Cypress Sawmill Pageant

A total of eight local young women will compete in the Patterson Cypress Sawmill Pageant Miss Division and the Teen Division. The pageants will take place Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Patterson Area Civic Center.

Admission is $8 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

The queens selected will begin their reign at the conclusion of the Cypress Sawmill Festival being held March 30 through April 1 at Kemper Williams Park near Patterson.

They will spend a year promoting the local festival across Louisiana then reign for the 2013 Cypress Sawmill Festival.

Miss division contestants are:

Jessica Decuir is the 18-year-old daughter of Shena and Tony Decuir of Patterson.

She is a senior at Patterson High School where she was on the homecoming court. The honor roll student is a member of Beta Club, National Honor Society, Student Council and 4-H.

Her interests include dancing, volleyball and reading.

She is a bible camp volunteer.

Breana S. Henry is the 17-year-old daughter of Lena M. Henry and Mark A. Bell of Franklin.

She is a junior at West St. Mary High School in Baldwin. Her recent honors include Student of the Month honorable mention, and cash scholarships from the Harvest Moon Festival and the Franklin’s Lion Club.

She is a WSM dance team member and earned second-place with the band at Battle of the Bands.

Her other school activities include being a member of Student Council, being Junior Class representative, a part-time track manager and athletic trainers’ aid.

Her hobbies include being on the Dazzling Diamonds Dance Team.

Community activities include being a member of the Hines Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ, sings and directs youth choir, is on the youth usher board, is captain of the church’s step team, and also participates with Franklin District Praise dance team.

Abriona Kirt is the 19-year-old-daughter of Monza Kirt and Sean Kirt of Franklin. The WSMHS senior is involved in cheerleading, Future Business Leaders of America, Insight, French Club and 4-H.

Her interests include softball, dancing, singing, reading poetry, romance novels, drawing and painting.

Her community activities include reading to pre-k through fifth-grade students at Raintree Elementary in Baldwin, coaching PeeWee’s Cheerleading Squad, and helping with fundraisers at Crossing Place Fellowship.

Robin Nicole Marcel is the 22-year-old daughter of Yvonne and Robby Marcel of Morgan City. She is a senior at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux and is a Phi Mu Sorority member.

She was a member of the 2011 Shrimp and Petroleum Festival court, a 2010 International Model and Talent Association participant, and was a 2009 Hugh O’Brian Youth Award winner.

She was also a 2008 Krewe of Hephaestus maid and participated in NSU Free Enterprise Week, Louisiana Girls State, 2007 All-Star Spirit Team performing in Rome, and was a 2007 Junior Saintsation.

Her interests include traveling, modeling, tutoring math, assisting the elderly and dancing.

As a community volunteer, she has assisted at nursing homes, helped with Children’s Theatre and was a Shrimp and Petroleum Festival village worker. She has been active with Children’s Miracle Network and St. Jude’s Hospital, and was a 2009 Hugh O’Brian youth counselor.

Teen division contestants are:

Carley Elizabeth Gravois is the 15-year-old daughter of Greg and Christie Gravois of Belle River. The Central Catholic High School sophomore is on the honor roll, is Students Against Destructive Decisions vice president, and a member of CCHS dance team, volleyball team and Come Lord Jesus group.

Her interests are dancing, volleyball, scrapbooking, horseback riding, sports, water skiing, pageants and fashion design/cosmetology.

As a community volunteer, she teaches bible school, was a group leader for March for Life/Washington, and participates in the Catholic Foreign Exchange Student Program.

Hailey Sehon is the 14-year-old daughter of Craig and Karen Sehon of Bayou Vista. The Patterson Junior High School eighth-grader is a member of Beta and Yearbook Club.

She was nominated for Girl’s Leadership Week at NSU, state finalist at the NAM pageant, and took a student trip to Washington, D.C.

Her interests include volleyball, softball, basketball, painting in gifted art, and dancing.

She helps in concession stand with the recreation softball league, and baby-sits toddlers and babies in a dance-class nursery.

Casey Lynn Stephens is the 16-year-old daughter of Geralyn Stephens of Patterson and the late Perry “Ned” Stephens. The PHS sophomore is a member of Student Council.

She earned first place at Cheerleader Camp.

Her interests include cheerleading, softball and singing.

She is a member of the church choir, and volunteers at the Louisiana State Museum Easter Egg Hunt and Spring Festival, and the Cypress Sawmill Festival.

Olivia Thibodeaux is the 15-year-old daughter of Gary Thibodeaux and Susan Kerry Thibodeaux of Centerville. The freshman is an honor student at Centerville High School where she is on the varsity basketball team.

She has won grand champion in the 4-H Cookery Contest for three consecutive years, and is also a member of Beta Club and the St. Mary Parish 4-H Jr. Leaders program.

She is also a member of the St. Mary Parish Talent Music Program, the Teche Theatre for Performing Arts and CHS Carnival court.

Her interests include track and field, playing piano and guitar, arts and crafts projects, hunting, photography, fishing, camping and baking.

She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Centerville, St. Joseph Summer Bible Study, and is an annual volunteer at the parish 4-H fair, and works concession at CHS basketball games.
