MORGAN CITY - Patterson swept its two contests Thursday at the Morgan City High School Lady Tiger Classic, while Berwick and Morgan City each won its tournament openers.

Patterson defeated Houma Christian, 25-13, 25-8, and Franklin, 25-13, 25-14. Berwick defeated Central Lafourche, 25-17, 25-20 and Morgan City defeated Thibodaux but a score and stats were unavailable as of press time today.

In Patterson’s win against Houma Christian, Carissa Fontenot led the ’Jills with 10 points, four aces, a dig, a kill and three assists, while Caitlyn Fontenot added three points and seven kills. Other PHS contributors included Rachel Easley, four points, three aces and a kill; Kailyn Johnson, three points, three aces and a dig; and Rebecca Taylor, four points, a dig and a kill.

Against Franklin, Easley led the squad with six points, four aces and three kills, while Carissa Fontenot added three points, two aces and an assist. Other Patterson statistical leaders included Caitlyn Fontenot, four points, an ace, and a kill; and Taylor, two points, three aces and a kill.

Patterson (4-2) will continue play in the tournament with at least two games Saturday in the girls’ gym at Morgan City Junior High. At 10:30 a.m., the ’Jills will meet South Lafourche and at 1:30 p.m., the squad will play Donaldsonville.

Berwick defeats

Central Lafourche

Berwick won its opener in the MCHS tourney Thursday against Central Lafourche.

Abigail Ohlin led Berwick (2-4) with three kills, two aces, one assist and nine digs, while Abigail Askew added four kills and six blocks. Other Berwick contributors included Elizabeth Hover, four kills, two aces and three digs; Elle Arcemont, three kills and three blocks; Rebecca Richard, one ace, six assists and two digs; and Diana Grace Guarisco, three aces and four digs.

Berwick will continue play in the tournament Saturday with at least three games in the boys’ gym at MCJHS. At 9:30 a.m. the squad will play Ellender, while at 11:30 a.m., Berwick will meet Westgate. At 2:30 p.m. Berwick will face West St. Mary

Morgan City (7-6) also will continue play in its own tournament Saturday with at least three games, all in the MultiPurpose building at MCHS. At 10:30 a.m., Morgan City will meet Acadiana, while at 1:30 p.m., Morgan City will play Sam Houston. At 4:30 p.m., Morgan City will play Ascension Catholic.
