This lone basketball with its weathered and faded colors bears the signs of many games of hoops. It sits in an empty court as if the players just disappeared. Funny how insig-nificant things like this quiet court with a forgotten old ball go unnoticed, until it catches the eye of a photographer, who then captures the scene that remains unseen — at least until now. The public basketball court on Catherine Street in Patterson is one spot that local children, teens and adults can go to enjoy a friendly game of basketball. Eleven days remain in the Christmas/New Year break for the stu-dents and employees of the St. Mary Parish school system.
