A Morgan City man was arrested for numerous drug charges after a traffic stop.

Justin E. Patterson, 23, of Bowman Street in Morgan City was arrested Friday at 12:17 p.m. for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of codeine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a legend drug without a prescription.

St. Mary Multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force agents patrolling the Morgan City area observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. During the investigation, they observed Patterson, the vehicle's passenger, holding a bag of marijuana in his lap. Upon further investigation, agents located two additional bags of marijuana and a bottle of liquid codeine, Sheriff Mark Hebert said.

Agents proceeded to Patterson’s residence to conduct a search warrant where they located legend drugs and drug paraphernalia, the sheriff added.

He was booked into the parish jail where he remained this morning with no bond set.

Elsewhere, Harry Wills, 52, of Degravelle Road in Amelia was arrested Saturday at 6:31 p.m. for terrorizing and simple criminal damage to property after deputies were called to Prime Man Power in Amelia for an alarm activation.

Wills activated the fire alarm twice and damaged it, Hebert said.

After speaking with witnesses, the deputy arrested Wills who was booked into the parish jail. He remained there this morning with no bond set.

In other news, Kirk J. Butler of 3B’s Lane in Bayou Vista was arrested Saturday at 10:44 p.m. for second offense possession of marijuana, two counts of resisting an officer, obstruction of justice and littering.

A deputy patrolling the Saturn Road area of Bayou Vista made an investigative stop on Butler and observed him drop a bag to the ground. When the deputy attempted to conduct an investigation, Butler fled on foot, Hebert said.

The deputy gave out a description of suspect to other units and retrieved a bag of marijuana that suspect had dropped. While searching the area for the suspect, another deputy located Butler and gave chase, apprehending him in a yard on Saturn Road, the sheriff said.

Butler was booked into the parish jail where he remained this morning in lieu of a $7,100 bond.

Gregory V. Causey, 24, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City was arrested Sunday at 4:08 a.m. for two counts of second-degree battery and on a warrant for failure to appear for driving under suspension and expired inspection sticker.

A deputy was called to Tabu Night Club in Amelia in reference to a fight.

Victims advised that an altercation had occurred in the bar and, when they were leaving, Causey committed a battery upon them. Both victims were taken to Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City for their injuries, Hebert said.

A deputy located Causey and brought him in for questioning. After an investigation, he was placed under arrest and booked into the parish jail. He remained there this morning in lieu of a $15,000 bond.

In Berwick, Saul Reyes, 35, of Houma was charged at 11 a.m. Monday with attempted theft and criminal trespass.

Reyes was caught by a contractor in Renwick taking bricks from behind a home under construction there, Berwick Police Chief James Richard said.

Reyes posted a $500 bond and was released.

In other local police news, Manuel L. Arnouville, 40, of Gibson was arrested Friday at 10:19 p.m. at La. 662 in Bayou L’Ourse and charged with first-offense driving while intoxicated and hit and run driving following a vehicle crash at La. 70 and Victor II Boulevard.

When Morgan City police officers arrived at the scene of the crash, one of the vehicles had fled the scene, and officers were notified moments later that another witness to the crash was following the vehicle, which now was eastbound on U.S. 90, Chief Marc Folse said.

Officers located the vehicle, and the driver was taken into custody and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he performed poorly on a field sobriety test and recorded a .239 grams-percent on the Intoxilyzer test.

Arnouville later was released from the City Jail on a $1,461 bond.

In fire news, an apartment at 721 Louisiana Street in Morgan City sustained an estimated $30,000 of damage after a 5:48 p.m. blaze Friday.

The apartment, owned by Calvin Valentine and rented by Carlos Johnson, was the only one to sustain damage from the fire, which is believed to have started on the mattress as a result of smoking cigarettes. Johnson, however, was not home at the time of the fire, MCFD Chief Morris Price said.

The first truck arrived on the scene at 5:50 p.m. and the 18 firefighters’ work was concluded by 6:50 p.m.

A neighbor with a pre-existing lung condition was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City via Acadian Ambulance. He was treated and released.
