Low turnout in parish early voting

Early voting for the Nov. 19 election closed in St. Mary Parish with 532 ballots cast.

There were 104 votes cast Thursday, 44 in Franklin and 60 in Morgan City. Saturday, another 94 votes were cast, 33 in Franklin and 61 in Morgan City. The registrar’s offices were closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.

Ballots that arrived by mail Monday tallied 47, 26 in Franklin and 21 in Morgan City.

Polls open Saturday at 6 a.m. with one question on the ballot for most parish voters, a constitutional amendment banning taxes and government fees on real estate transactions.

Voters in Morgan City also will decide whether or not to institute a 0.3 percent sales tax for road repairs.
