FRANKLIN — A one hour delay while waiting for officials may have kept Tuesday’s District 9-3A matchup between the Patterson Lumberjills and the Franklin Lady Hornets from starting on time, but once the game finally did start, the Lumberjills showed no ill-effects as they scored 14 first inning runs en route to a 22-1, three inning victory.

Thursday’s game, which originally was scheduled for a 4 p.m. start, was delayed an hour when officials didn’t show up. Apparently, Franklin Coach Christina Gaette said, the officials were not scheduled for the game.

When they finally arrived and the game began, it didn’t take the ’Jills long to start crossing the plate in bunches.

After forcing leadoff hitter Carli McIntyre to pop out to the third base for the game’s first out, the Lumberjills would score 10 more runs before the second out was recorded.

Much of the damage came via wild pitches by Franklin’s Karson Grogan, which allowed multiple Lady ’Jills to score.

The inning was capped by a Rachel Easley triple to right field that scored two runs for a 14-0 Lumberjills advantage.

Franklin finally got out of the first inning when Easley was called out at third base for leaving base early.

Franklin responded with its lone run in the bottom of the first inning on a Ja’Courtlyn Hamilton single to center field that scored Grogan.

In the top of the second, the Lumberjills added three more runs, including one on a Caitlyn Fontenot RBI double to left field.

In the third, the ’Jills scored five more runs, including a two-RBI single by Easley.

Easley finished the day 3-for-4 with a triple, five RBIs and a run to lead the ’Jills at the plate, while Fontenot added a 2-for-2 performance with a double, three runs, an RBI and a walk. Carissa Fontenot added a 2-for-3 performance with two RBIs and two runs, and Morgan Lavergne finished 1-for-1 with a run.

On the mound, Car. Fontenot tossed three innings and surrendered one earned run on four hits and struck out four.

The Lumberjills will return to action on Thursday at 5 p.m. at home when they continue District 9-3A play against Erath.
