The Morgan City High School soccer squads split its action Tuesday against Belle Chasse as the Lady Tigers defeated Belle Chasse, 6-0, while the boys fell 9-2.
In the girls’ matchup, Morgan City scored in the game’s third minute via a Shawn Guillot goal off a pass by teammate Carmen Araujo.
The Lady Tigers scored again in the 14th minute when Sarah Patterson scored after receiving a pass from teammate Celeste Williams.
Patterson scored her second goal in the 30th minute following a pass from Ashley Rock for a 3-0 Morgan City advantage.
Nine minutes into the second half, Patterson recorded her hat-trick as she scored on a ball that was not cleared well by the Cardinals’ defense.
Morgan City scored two more goals, one in the 56th minute via a corner kick and another by Williams, who scored despite battling three Belle Chasse defenders.
“I was proud of the way we played,” Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson said. “We needed goals, and we came away with six. We had some great passing. We had shots on goal we defended. Everything was good. Yes, we still had mistakes, but as a coach, nothing is ever perfect for us.”
In the boys’ contest, coach Patterson said mistakes “got the worst of us” as Belle Chasse scored a goal via a penalty kick.
Morgan City tied the game in the 21st minute with a penalty kick by Daniel Alvarado.
However, Belle Chasse came back with eight more goals, three via penalty kicks.
Alvarado scored another goal for Morgan City for the 9-2 final.
“Not to take anything away from the Cardinals, they won, but it wasn’t a nine-goal game,” Patterson said. “Six goals were given to them from our mistakes. We are just not relaxing. We are playing wild, and the score can tell you it hurts us.”
The Tigers will get a chance for a much better showing when they host Belle Chasse, Division 2’s No. 2 ranked squad, according to the latest Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association Poll. Action is set for a 7 p.m. start.
The girls’ game between Beau Chene and Morgan City will precede the boys’ game with a 5 p.m. start time.
