The Morgan City Lady Tigers defeated Helen Cox, 3-1, while the Tigers fell to the Helen Cox boys’ squad, 2-1, both on the road Monday.

In the girls’ game, Morgan City’s Carmen Araujo scored in the game’s first goal in the 11th minute via a free kick from 25-yards away.

Helen Cox tied the game in the 20th minute, but 10 minutes later, Morgan City’s Celeste Williams gave the Lady Tigers the lead again when she got through the defense.

The Lady Tigers scored their third goal when Sarah Patterson took Williams’ pass and scored in the 37th minute when she knocked a shot past the goalie in a one-on-one matchup.

In the boys’ contest, Patterson said the game went back and forth.

Daniel Alvarado scored the Tigers’ goal in the 73rd minute.

Patterson said Morgan City had its opportunities to win or tie but just couldn’t get it done.

“Helen Cox was more physical than us, and their speed in the back really helped them shut down our chances,” he said.

Both squads will return to action today at home against South Lafourche, with the girls playing at 5 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.
