MORGAN CITY — The Morgan City High School tennis teams opened their seasons at home Thursday against Assumption High in their “Pink Game.”

While the Lady Tigers fell, coach Stephanie Gautreaux said her team played well, considering they were missing three of their starting players.

The Lady Tigers’ doubles’ team of Elizabeth Esteban and Amber Colbert defeated Assumption’s Alexis Gaudet and Haylie Landry, 6-2, 7-5, while the Lady Tigers’ doubles’ team of Ashley Cavalier and Emily LaCoste defeated Assumption’s Dani Madere and Kelsey Gros, 9-7, 6-1.

Despite a good match, Morgan City’s duo of Savannah Loupe and Harleigh Price fell in straight sets to Assumption’s Dani LeBlanc and Amber Simoneaux.

In singles’ play, the Lady Tigers’ Kristina Pitre fell to Caroline Gonzales, 1-6, 4-6, in a match that lasted 1½ hours.

In boys’ action, Morgan City struggled in doubles’ play early but had a solid showing in singles’ action.

In singles’ action, Blake Verrett fell to Assumption’s Chase Hinton, 5-6, 2-6.

The boys’ team consists of four boys — three seniors and one junior.

The Morgan City tennis team will not return to action until March 7 when they host Catholic High of New Iberia at 3 p.m.
