Morgan City’s soccer teams split a pair of district games Friday at South Terrebonne.

The Gators beat the Tigers 4-1 in the boys game with MCHS’ errors proving costly.

Jose Zuniga scored the only goal for MCHS in a result coach Jorge Hernandez dubbed “disappointing.”

“We had chances, we even had two penalty kicks that were saved, hats off to the Gators keeper,” Hernandez said. “When we don’t score and have to come from behind we lose focus and the other teams always capitalize on it.”

Morgan City’s girls took the field in the second game and won 5-1.

Shannon Theriot started things off with a goal in the sixth minute followed by a Celest Williams goal in the 17th minute.

Sarina Morales scored the first goal of the second half on a well-placed strike from 30 yards out in the 50th minute. Theriot completed her hattrick with goals in the 69th and 70th minutes to complete a lopsided win.

The only goal the Lady Tigers allowed came on a penalty kick.

“We came out strong this game after getting beat by them at home. The girls had a statement to make and they did just that,” MCHS coach Trevor Patterson said. “We controlled the game.”

The win pushed the Lady Tigers into the top 10 of Louisiana Soccer Coaches Association’s Division II poll.

Both MCHS teams return to action 5 p.m. Wednesday against Lutcher at Tiger Stadium.
