Consequently, narcotics agents with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office booked 24-year-old Kory Melancon on a litany of charges having to do with what deputies described as “a large-scale cultivation lab” producing a large amount of high-grade marijuana.
Agents also seized a handgun and a large amount of U.S. currency.
It all began when the SMSO Narcotics Division received information that marijuana was being cultivated in a residence located on La Freniere Road in Parks. After an investigation, agents went to the residence on Wednesday, Nov. 7, and met with the owner of the residence, Melancon, who lived there with his wife and small child.
A search of the residence turned up the cultivation lab, with an estimated value of $5,000, bulk marijuana with a street value of approximately $30,000, and $3,340 in cash.
Among the charges Melancon is facing are manufacturing of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance, operation of a clandestine laboratory for the unlawful manufacture of a controlled dangerous substance, illegal carrying of a weapon, illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Melancon was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center.
