CROWLEY – A man who is no stranger to police is charged with trying to kidnap a Crowley woman after following her from I-10 late at night.

They allege Gary Jennings, 50, of Rayne followed his prey from the interstate to her home north of the highway about 3 a.m.

As she placed her key in the door he jumped from his pickup and tried to force her into it. She struggled and screamed and a family member came to her assistance and Jennings fled, authorities said.

After developing Jennings as a suspect, police discovered that shortly after his attack that he reported for work with an off shore drilling company. Investigators worked with the Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office and representatives of the oilfield company to have Jennings returned to port. Upon his return to port in Cameron, Jennings was arrested Saturday evening, on an outstanding warrant issued by Crowley Police for attempted simple kidnapping. Bond has been set at $100,000. Jennings will be transferred to the Acadia Parish Jail.

“Jennings has previous dealings with law enforcement. On two (2) separate occasions, Jennings has been arrest for obscenity in Lafayette Parish and has stalking charges pending in Rayne” stated Chief K.P. Gibson.
