SHREVEPORT – A jury found Eric Mickelson guilty of killing and then chopping into pieces an elderly man.

First-degree murder was the verdict Wednesday in the death of Charles Martin, an 86-year-old World War II veteran who Mickelson robbed to finance a cocaine habit, then killed to keep him from telling police.

He used a saw to dismember Martin’s body, then hid the parts in various places.

His alleged accomplice, Beverly Arthur, will be tried later on the same charge.
