Man jailed for breaking girlfriend’s eye cavity

MORGAN CITY — A woman suffered a fractured eye cavity after her boyfriend struck her in the face Monday evening, according to Assistant Chief Glenn Blanco of the Morgan City Police Department.

—Carlos Johnson, 52, of Louisiana Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:53 p.m. Monday for second degree battery. Responding to a call of a domestic disturbance, police learned that Johnson had struck his girlfriend on the left side of the face, the report stated. Acadian Ambulance was contacted and she was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center, where it was determined that she had a fractured left ocular orbit. Johnson remains jailed with bail not set.

Other arrests made by Morgan City police over the weekend are as follows, according to Assistant Chief Glenn Blanco:

—Robert Beatty, 61, of Stephens Lane, Centerville, was arrested at 2:18 p.m. Thursday at the Taco Bell in Bayou Vista on a warrant for contempt of court for failure to appear for sentencing. He remains jailed with bail not set.

—Russell Francis, 27, of Fourth Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 10:47 p.m. Saturday near Front and Onstead streets for hit-and-run driving, resisting an officer, driving while intoxicated first offense for a hit-and-run that occurred at Ganaway’s 1 on Federal Avenue. The vehicle that he struck followed Francis, who ran from officers who approached him, the report stated. He failed the field sobriety test and the intoxilyzer test, which yielded a result of .140g, the report stated. He remains jailed with bail not set.

—Christine Swanson, 35, of Garber Street, Morgan City, was arrested at her residence at 9:03 a.m. Sunday on a warrant for felony theft of more than $500. The warrant is the result of a theft of two voltmeters which she removed from a vehicle and pawned at Charlie’s Pawn on July 30, the report stated. Total value of the meters was $679. She remains jailed with a $2,500 bail.

—Jonathan Singleton, 41, of Leona Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 8:21 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear to pay restitution, no vehicle insurance and no license plate light. He remains jailed with bail set at $1,597.

—Alexander Harrison, 47, of Harrison Road, Vacherie, was arrested at 10:26 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of Credit Merchandise for driving under suspension, resisting an officer by giving false information, a stop sign violation, possession of alcohol in vehicle and a warrant-hold from the St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office. He remains jailed with bail set at $1,182 bail. Also arrested in the same incident was Laurie Pritchett, 30, of Gibson for possession of drug paraphernalia. She was in possession of a suspected crack pipe, the report stated. She remains incarcerated with a $742 bail.

—Michael Gonzales, 24, of Glenwood Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:43 a.m. today at La. 182 and Pecos Street for stop sign violation, possession of marijuana second offense and warrants for simple battery and contempt of court. The officer smelled an odor of burning marijuana coming from the vehicle and the subject admitted to smoking it just prior to being stopped, the report stated. He consented to a search of his person and officers located a hand-rolled cigarette of suspected marijuana in a pack of cigarettes, the report stated. He remains jailed with bail not set.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office reports the following arrests overnight, according to Sheriff Mark Hebert:

—Sherman Deshun Thompkins, 27, of Bowman Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 9:51 a.m. Monday at Gator Riggings, his place of employment, on La. 182 in Amelia on a warrant for failure to appear for trespassing and remaining where forbidden and on warrants from the Morgan City Court for failure to appear. He remains jailed with bail not set.

—Tiearra Andrea Wilson, 26, of La. 182, Morgan City, was arrested at 12:44 p.m. Monday at the Morgan City Police Department on a warrant for failure to appear for improper lane usage and suspended driver’s license. She turned herself in and remains jailed with a $5,000 bail.

—John Washington, 56, of Roderick Street, Morgan City, was arrested at 3:44 p.m. Monday on La. 182 in Amelia for possession of marijuana second offense and on a warrant for failure to appear for issuing worthless checks. Agents patrolling the Amelia area made contact with Washington in a parking lot. After receiving consent to search his person, agents located marijuana on Washington, the report stated. He remains jailed with bail not set.

The Patterson Police Department reported one arrest overnight, according to Chief Patrick M. LaSalle:

—Quinton Alfred Smith, 26, of Railroad Avenue, Patterson, was arrested at 3:50 p.m. Monday on Sandy Drive in Patterson for driving without a driver’s license. He was released after paying a fine of $214.

The Berwick Police Department reported no arrests were made overnight, according to Chief James Richard.
