"I just grabbed him and got out of there," said Bobby "Junior" James.

James reported that he was outside his home on Saturday afternoon when he saw dark smoke nearby. James went down the road to see where the smoke was coming from and realized his neighbor's house was on fire.

"The front door was locked so I busted it down," he said.

When James entered the flaming house, smoke obscured his vision but he managed to find his neighbor in a bedroom sleeping and helped him get safely outside. Other neighbors called 911 for James.

Wilmer Volunteer Fire Department, with mutual aid from Kentwood Volunteer Fire Department, arrived on the scene to find the structure totally engulfed in flames. The home burned to the ground and apparently ignited a weeded/wooded area nearby as well.

Daniels was checked at a neighbor's home by Acadian Ambulance, before coming back to the scene. He just shook his head as he looked at what was once his home.

"I don't even have shoes," Daniels said. "I lost everything. It's all gone."

Larry Bankston of Wilmer Fire Dept. says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
