A Eunice woman was arrested Wednesday after police allege she left two small children alone in a house full of drugs.

Eunice Police responded to a child welfare complaint at 822 S. Martin Luther King Drive late Wednesday morning.

Arriving at the house, police say they found two children, approximately eight years old, with no adult supervision.

They also noticed a marijuana cigarette sitting in an ashtray in the house.

When the mother returned home, police obtained permission to search the house. Inside they say they found drug paraphernalia, significant quantities of marijuana and Ecstasy.

The house also lies within a school zone.

Alexas Nicole Papion, 28, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule I drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of cruelty to a juvenile, possession of Schedule IV drugs, illegal use of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the presence of underage persons, violation of uniform CDS and possession of Schedule I drugs.

The children were taken into protective custody and later turned over to their grandmother.
