Fire destroyed a Perret Street home Monday morning. Franklin Fire Department officials reported that they were notified of the fire through a 911 call at about 9:40 a.m. and found heavy smoke and fire in the rear of the structure upon arrival. There were six people living in the house, and no injuries reported. The fire was contained to the rear of the home, but the entire residence suffered smoke, water and heat damage. Cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but appears to have begun in a rear bedroom, according to Fire Chief Chuck Bourgeois. Centerville and Baldwin fire personnel assisted. Though this home had an operating smoke detector, Bourgeois reminded local residents to make sure their detectors are installed and have fresh batteries. Bourgeois also reminded residents not to use kitchen ovens to stay warm in cold weather.
