In a tandem effort between Marine Transportation Consultants and Canal Barge, Conrad Shipyard delivered barges CBC-374 and CBC-375 recently. These mark the fifth and sixth barges of a 16 barge contract from Marine Transportation Consultants. These barges are 297 feet by 54 feet by 12 feet, 30,000 barrel tank barges used for transporting clean/refined petroleum products.

“This contract and our relationship with Marine Transportation and Canal Barge are significant events for Conrad Shipyard. We have enjoyed the relationship and look forward to the future,” Johnny Conrad, president and chief executive officer of Conrad Shipyard, said.

In attendance for the christening were numerous representatives from Marine Transportation, Canal Barge, SeaRiver, Conrad Shipyard and numerous family and friends. Giving the traditional blessing were the Rev. Danny Poche and Monsignor Douglas Courville.

Formal addresses were given by Joseph Gehegan, president of Marine Transportation, and Merritt Lane, president of Canal Barge. The speakers were introduced by Terry Frickey, chief operating officer of Conrad Shipyard. All three spoke of what it means to the companies involved to have a quality project built with quality delivered on time and safely.

Performing the traditional “wetting of the hull” were Julie Spiers and Susan Stall, both of Canal Barge in New Orleans. The women were sponsors for CBC-374 and CBC-375 respectively.

Following the christening the host of attendees celebrated with a luncheon at The Petroleum Club in Morgan City.
