Morgan City girls defeat St. Martinville

MORGAN CITY, La. -- The Morgan City High girls’ basketball team ran away from St. Martinville Monday at home, 59-38, on the back of a 30-point performance from Morgan City’s Casey Chenevert.

Morgan City jumped out to a big lead early with the score 19-7 at the end of the first quarter. The team extended its lead to 29-11 at halftime.

At the end of the third quarter, Morgan City piled on more points to bring the score to 48-21. St. Martinville fought back in the fourth quarter outscoring Morgan City 17-11 in the quarter, but it wasn’t enough to come back.

Morgan City shot 22 of 51, or 43 percent, from the field. Chenevert was 3 of 7 from 3-point range.

Meya Morse added 11 points and Tammy Nguyen added 10 points for Morgan City.

The Morgan City High girls’ basketball team plays at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday against Patterson at Patterson High School.
