Webre says the men were booked Saturday in Raceland for possession of stolen property and could face more charges pending the outcome of the investigation by New Orleans Police into the carjacking incident.
Held in lieu of $100,000 bond each is 23-year-old Fred Jones, of New Orleans and 18-year-old Kurwin Webb, of Morgan City. Bond for two others, 19-year-old Oren Pichon, of Morgan City, and 22-year-old Willie Smith, of New Orleans, was set at $50,000.
The men were stopped shortly after 11 p.m. on U.S. 90 after getting a report that a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro had been stolen at gunpoint in New Orleans and was near Louisiana 182 in Raceland.
Webre said Monday that the car had pulled onto the highway’s shoulder as deputies approached but then re-entered the highway and accelerated over 100 miles per hour, refusing to stop. Deputies followed the car for about five miles before it was remotely deactivated via OnStar and the men were arrested.
In addition to the stolen property charge, Jones was booked with aggravated flight from an officer and Webb was booked with possession with intent to distribute heroin.
