—Diana Gonzalez, 18, of Parker Heights, Texas, was arrested at 7:15 p.m. Thursday and charged with soliciting without a permit.
—Jeremiah Claunch, 20, of Wheatland, Mo., was arrested at 7:15 p.m. Thursday and charged with soliciting without a permit.
—Kemper Harden, 21, of Damascus, Ark., was arrested at 7:15 p.m. Thursday and charged with soliciting without a permit.
All three were jailed and held. Each of them has bail set at $692.
Gonzalez, Claunch and Harden were arrested after a complaint was received of subjects selling magazine subscriptions in the Lakeside area. The suspects were located on Karen Drive and questioned.
According to the suspects, the monies collected would be sent to St. Jude Research Hospital. It was determined that the proceeds were for personal gain. Investigators checked with the Better Business Bureau and determined that the company, CRS Inc., which they said was based out of Texas, was not a legitimate company, the report stated.
When asked whether they had obtained a permit to solicit from the parish or the city, they stated they had not. Investigators also learned from the suspects that they had solicited in other areas of the parish.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests:
—Cortney Ranell Griffin, 28, of Carmen Street in Patterson, was arrested at 5:14 p.m. Thursday for theft. A deputy responded to a complaint of a shoplifter at Walmart in Bayou Vista. Upon arrival, the deputy learned from store security that Griffin, an employee of Walmart, was observed on video surveillance footage taking items from the store. Griffin was released on a summons to appear in court on March 8, 2013.
—John Cotchan, 27, of North Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:19 p.m. Thursday at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin for theft of animals. A deputy responded to a complaint of a theft of a dog from a kennel located off of La. 182 in Franklin adjacent to the St. Mary Parish Animal Shelter Cotchan was taken to the parish jail and held. He was released on a $1,000 bail.
—Virgil Hebert, 53, of Barrow Street in Amelia, was arrested at 1:53 a.m. Friday for domestic abuse battery.
—Dorinda Hebert, 47, of Barrow Street in Amelia, was arrested at 1:53 a.m. Friday for domestic abuse battery.
A deputy responded to a complaint of domestic abuse at the residence listed above. Both were taken to the parish jail and held. No bail has been set.
—Chesity Deblanc, 34, of Darby Lane in New Iberia, was arrested at 11:56 p.m. Thursday for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstruction of justice.
St. Mary Parish Narcotics Division detectives patrolling Amelia observed a vehicle fail to use a turn signal at the intersection of La. 182 and Duhon Bypass Road and conducted a traffic stop. During the investigation, detectives located marijuana and a digital scale on the passenger who was identified as Deblanc, the report stated. Deblanc was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail has been set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Leonard Keith Poldery, 55, of Sixth Street in Franklin, was arrested at 8:02 p.m. Thursday for a red light violation and driving under suspension. He was released on bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
