Two individuals in a vehicle pulled up to confront another individual in front of a residence. Fifteen shots were fired, and the resident was able to take cover in his home. Neither the resident nor his children were hit by the gunfire, Chief Marc Folse said.
The suspects fled the area. Police are obtaining warrants for the two suspects, and expect to make arrests soon, Folse said.
If warrants are obtained, attempted second degree murder would be the charges for both suspects.
In Berwick, Devin Dinger, 18, of Teche Road in Bayou Vista was booked Tuesday on multiple charges and is still being held in jail.
Dinger was stopped near Berwick Junior High School for driving 73 miles per hour where the speed limit is 45. The investigating officer then found drugs on the suspect, Chief James Richard said.
Dinger was booked with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a drug-free zone, illegal use of CDS in the presence of a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In other action, Jody Breaux of Glenwood Street in Morgan City was arrested Tuesday by Berwick police for a hit-and-run charge stemming from a complaint on March 16 that he fled the scene of an accident at the Hollywood Truck Stop on U.S. 90 in Berwick. He remains in jail with no bond set.
Parish deputies arrested Therold L. James, 27, of 3B’s Lane in Bayou Vista on Tuesday at 9:57 a.m. for three counts of battery on a police officer, battery of a correctional facility employee, four counts of resisting an officer with force, possession of MDMA with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana and parole violation.
A deputy was called to 3B’s Apartments in reference to removing a subject. Upon the deputy’s arrival, the complainant advised that she wanted James to leave the residence.
During investigation, a pat-down of James was conducted; he then began resisting deputies and committed batteries upon the deputies. James was taken into custody and a search of his person was conducted, with the deputy locating a bag of marijuana and two pills. After investigation, James was booked into the parish jail with no bond at this time.
