The Morgan City Fire Department recently acquired a new $218,000 fire truck, which pumps 1,250 gallons per minute. Morgan City Fire Chief Morris Price said, “This replacement truck has been a long time coming. Everything went as planned to receive the truck for the beginning of 2013 as the city’s tax funds combined with our department savings completed the project.” An improvement on the new fire truck is the “roll up” rescue doors instead of swing doors which provide more storage of vital equipment. Standing with the Morgan City Fire Department aid team are Morgan City Mayor-elect Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi, Morgan City Mayor Tim Matte, Price and Councilman Louis Tamporello.

MORGAN CITY, La. — The Morgan City Fire Department received a new fire truck from Ferrara Fire Apparatus in Holden, said Morgan City Fire Chief Morris Price.

Price picked up the truck Dec. 27, he said. The truck is a commercial pumper to replace the truck that went out of service after a mechanical failure several months ago. The fire department had planned to purchase a new pumping truck in 2013 before the mechanical failure on the old truck expedited the need for a new truck, Price said.

In December, the city council approved the purchase of the new truck in the 2012 amended budget, which had already been approved to be purchased in 2013. The truck cost $218,898.

The fire department received four or five other bids, but Ferrara’s bid was the only one that could be delivered right away, Price said.

The fire department now has four fire engines, including the new pumping truck, one ladder truck and one utility truck, he said.
