A driver who crashed into one of the historic lamp posts on Main Street Thursday was not cited but his vehicle insurance will still be charged for the damages, Chief Sabria McGuire said this morning.

She said Otis Griffin of Patterson swerved to avoid a cat that ran across the road and Griffin hit the post.

McGuire said a witness verified Griffin’s story, and no citation was issued.

The chief said there was no injury to Griffin or the cat.

The city has four center poles and five cross arms for replacement parts remaining, and also possesses the molds to have new lamp parts manufactured.
