No happy new year for some after 22 pounds of marijuana seized

BREAUX BRIDGE – A Breaux Bridge man apparently planning a happy new year is behind bars after being arrested for allegedly having 22 pounds of marijuana in his possession.

Officials said Joshua Solomon, 36, was also charged with having other illegal narcotics as well as having an AK-47 assault rifle in the presence of the CDS.

His vehicle and his home were searched in the buse by St. Martin Sheriff’s Narcotics officers.

Solomon was booked into the Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

•Possession with the intent to distribute schedule I controlled dangerous substance (marijuana).

•Possession of schedule III controlled dangerous substance (hydrocodone).

•Possession of schedule IV controlled dangerous substance (carisoprodol).

•Possession of schedule V controlled dangerous substance (promethazine with codeine).

•Transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.

•Possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.

•Driving left of the center line.

Solomon was arrested, after the SMSO narcotics unit conducted a surveillance investigation in the Breaux Bridge area and stopped his vehicle.

A K9 alert prompted a vehicle search where agents located 10,333 grams of marijuana with an estimated street value of $52,000.

A search was also conducted at Solomon’s home where additional illegal narcotics and an AK-47 assault rifle were located.
