A two-vehicle crash on U.S. 90 east of La. 668 Saturday left one woman dead and the two drivers arrested, according to reports from State Police Troop I.

According to the investigation, Marjorie McGee, 77, of Jeanerette, was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry north on Pepper Road approaching U.S. 90 at 12:25 p.m. A 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Charles Burnett, 39, of New Iberia, was traveling east on U.S. 90 approaching Pepper Road.

McGee reportedly failed to stop at the two-way stop sign on Pepper Road, entered the highway and stopped in the eastbound lanes of travel.

Burnett struck the side of McGee’s vehicle which caused he and his passenger, Dottie Burnett, 40, of New Iberia, to be ejected from the bike.

Dodie Burnett, who was wearing a DOT helmet, was pronounced dead by the St. Mary Parish Coroner. Charles Burnett sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital. McGee sustained minor injuries and was also transported to a local hospital.

A passenger in McGee’s vehicle, Mary Crosby, 79, of Jeanerette, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

McGee was charged with reckless operation, disregarding a stop sign, improper stopping and two counts of vehicular negligent injuring.

Burnett was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

The accident remains under investigation.
