KAPLAN – A 13-year-old girl was successful in warding off her alleged attacker at the Kaplan library.

Chief of Police Boyd Adams reported the department received a call at approximately 3:20 p.m. Nov. 3 of an attempted rape at the library.

Adams said the teen was doing homework at the library when she went to the restroom.

While washing her hands, she was allegedly grabbed from behind and thrown on the floor.

The girl began kicking and screaming at her attacker.

An off-duty guard was in the library, heard the screams and ran to help. As she was able to get away, the guard was able to detain the suspect until Kaplan police arrived.

Arrested was Christopher Brown, 20, of Opelousas. He was charged with attempted forcible rape. He is in the Kaplan jail. No bond has been set.
