Central Catholic was knocked out of the top spot in Class 1A, while Patterson continues to gain steam in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association polls released today.

Central Catholic slipped to No. 2 following a challenging week in which the Eagles fell to Vandebilt Catholic, 54-44, before barely holding on to defeat then-No. 7 Ascension Episcopal, 48-45, Friday in District 8-1A action.

Vandebilt Catholic, the top vote-getter outside the top 10 in Class 4A a week ago, moved into the top 10 this week at No. 10. The Terriers are receiving 27 points.

Vandebilt Catholic will battle Morgan City today in District 8-4A action at approximately 7 p.m. in Morgan City.

Ascension Episcopal slipped to No. 9 in Class 1A. The squad is receiving 42 points.

Central Catholic, who received eight first-place votes a week ago, received three first place votes this week along with 110 points.

Christian Life, who reclaimed the top spot, received the other seven first-place votes. The Crusaders received 117 points.

In Class 3A, Patterson (13-5 overall, 10-0 in District 9-3A action) received 14 votes this week, twice as many as a week ago.

Patterson, who is riding a six-game winning streak, picked up an 81-53 victory against Kaplan during the last week as well as a 55-36 victory against Abbeville Friday on the road that gave the ’Jacks a share of the District 9-3A title.

Today, Patterson will play New Iberia, the top vote-getter outside Class 5A’s top 10 with 28 votes, on the road at approximately 7 p.m.

Patterson’s and Berwick’s District 9-3A foe, North Vermilion, remained ranked No. 10 in Class 3A with 25 points.

One of North Vermilion’s wins during the past week was a 63-48 victory against Berwick.
