Patterson High School’s football team will participate in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Officials' Clinic today when it squares off against Pope John Paul High School at 4 p.m. at Joe Yenni Stadium in Metairie.

Although Patterson certainly will get valuable preseason action during the event, it is not a scrimmage, LHSAA Assistant Executive Director B.J. Guzzardo said. Rather, it is a clinic meant as a tune up for officials.

Preseason intersquad scrimmages cannot begin until Monday, and Patterson will hold its fall scrimmage on Thursday when it travels to Plaquemine High for a 5:30 p.m. matchup.

During today’s action, PHS coach Tommy Minton said his squad would be competing in full pads.

Guzzardo said quite a few teams will be competing in the event.

Guzzardo said the LHSAA chooses different schools for the event each year.
