The Chitimacha Tribe hosted a clinic with paddling guide Donovan Garcia and interested members focusing on canoe and kayak fundamentals. Above, tribal Chairman John Paul Darden tries his hand at paddling a canoe in Bayou Teche, and below are a group of participants in the clinic. The canoes were rented from the Evangeline Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Chitimacha is a major sponsor of the upcoming Tour du Teche II paddle race set for Oct. 7-9. A special insert inside today’s newspaper offers complete information on the race, the racers and various activities planned for the 135-mile trek down Bayou Teche.
