In Morgan City, Clive Edward Mohler, 72, of Belanger Street in Morgan City was charged with disturbing the peace, resisting an officer and battery on an officer.

He was arrested at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday in city court after becoming belligerent about going through the metal detector.

In the ensuing battle, he pushed one officer and struck a court officer in the shoulder so hard that she almost fell to the floor, Chief Marc Folse said.

The city marshal assisted in regaining control of the situation, and Mohler was booked into the city jail where he posted a $1,446 bond and subsequently was released.

Denise Guidry, 48, of Florence Street in Morgan City was charged with theft by shoplifting at 12:02 p.m. Tuesday.

An employee of CVS noticed Guidry had a bulge in her sweatpants. Officers discovered she was concealing two containers of fabric softener valued together at around $15.

No bond information was available for Guidry this morning.
