PATTERSON -- City leaders Tuesday accepted a donation of land from a former NFL player for use as a spray park.

Isaac J. “Ike” Hilliard, a Patterson native, donated land next to the Dollar General on Catherine Street that is 190 feet across the front and 310 feet deep with the caveats that it be used for a recreational purpose and that it be named the Isaac J. Hilliard Park.

Mayor Rodney Grogan did not give a timeframe for the start of construction.

Hilliard currently works as the wide receivers coach for the Washington Redskins.

Hilliard played college football at the University of Florida from 1994-96 and was a first round selection in the 1997 NFL draft. He played 12 seasons for the New York Giants and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In other action at their monthly meeting, the board:

—Adopted an ordinance for the fiscal year 2012-13 operating budget that anticipates revenues of $6.68 million and expenditures of $6.29 million with a beginning year fund balance of $16.09 million.

—Adopted a 2012-13 fiscal year capital outlay budget of $149,000.

—Heard from mobile ice cream vendor Claudia Carter who disagrees with citations she has received for noise ordinance violations.

—Learned the Department of Health and Hospitals completed its annual survey of the water treatment system Tuesday and found no infractions.

—Learned the Catherine Street sidewalk project is in the lien period and the water treatment plant design currently is about 55 percent complete.

—Adopted its annual compliance questionnaire for its audit.

—Adopted the official municipal journal.

—Expanded the agenda to include a resolution of respect for former mayor and councilman C.A. “Gus” Lipari.

All members of the council were present.
