Hattie Watts Elementary School in Patterson was one of only 305 schools in the nation named as a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School — and now anyone passing through the City of Patterson will know about it. The school was chosen in September by the U.S. Department of Education because it is a high-performing school with at least a 40 percent disadvantaged population. During Tuesday's Patterson City Council meeting, Mayor Rodney Grogan unveiled directional signs to the school that feature the school's achievement. From left are Grogan, HWES teachers Amanda Talbot, Vanessa Pinho and Lisa Wilson, Principal Niki Fryou and teacher Suzanne Lipari.
