A Patterson man was arrested for beating his pregnant girlfriend, causing her facial fractures, Saturday morning.

DeShawn Smith, 29, of Second Street in Patterson was charged at 1:03 a.m. with second degree battery domestic violence. He and his girlfriend had argued earlier in the day and he beat her that evening. While she defended herself with pepper spray because he had beaten her before, it was not enough, Chief Patrick LaSalle said.

She was released from the hospital after receiving prenatal care and treatment for facial and nose fractures, the chief said.

Smith posted a $250,000 bond and was released.

Elsewhere, Jeremy Allemond, 30, of Kem Street in Patterson was arrested Saturday at 4:49 a.m. for aggravated burglary, aggravated battery and criminal damage to property.

Sheriff Mark Hebert said a deputy was called to Tabu Bar in Amelia where he learned from the complainant and witnesses that the bar was being closed down for the night when suspects were banging on the back door. Upon opening the door, the complainant and witness were confronted by two suspects. One of them entered the bar and began fighting with complainant.

During the altercation, Allemond struck the complainant with a 2-by-4 board on the leg. He then was observed taking a bank bag with an undetermined amount of cash and fleeing from the scene.

Allemond was located at 300 Camille St. in Patterson, where he was arrested. He remained incarcerated this morning with no bond set.

Also in Patterson, Barron Michael Young, 21, of Senette Street in Centerville was charged at 9:03 p.m. Friday for possession of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance, open container and littering.

He was arrested at the Sonic parking lot in Patterson after a caller advised a vehicle had been seen driving the wrong way on a nearby street and littering, LaSalle said.

Young posted a $3,000 bond and was released.

Sheriff’s deputies also arrested Brandi D. Anthony, 36, of Fairview Street in Bayou Vista at 12:54 p.m. Friday for theft by shoplifting after a deputy was called to the Bayou Vista Wal-Mart. Store security said Anthony was observed concealing a pair of sandals valued at $9.98 and leaving the store without paying, Hebert said.

She was issued a summons to appear in court.

Misael Garcia, 22, of Lake-view Drive in Amelia was arrested at 12:55 a.m. today for theft.

A deputy was called to Blondie’s Lounge in Amelia after Garcia was observed going into a storeroom and taking two beers valued at $10.

When suspect was told by the manager to pay for the beer, he had no money, the sheriff said.

Garcia was arrested and issued a summons to appear in court.
