Franklin, which led by a 7-6 margin during the second quarter when Brian Robertson scored on a 2-yard run and Brandon McFarlane added the extra point, pulled within five points of the Lumberjacks at 18-13 when defensive back Davonte Joseph ran back an interception for a Pick-Six with four ticks remaining before intermission.
In the third quarter, the Patterson Lumberjacks went on a 29-0 scoring spree for a 47-13 advantage when Mark Jones scored his second touchdown on the night. Jones scored on a 77-yard run before Jay Declouette scored on the two-point conversion, giving Patterson the 47-13 lead in the third quarter.
Patterson drew first blood when Lorenzo Phillips raced 16 yards, handing the ‘Jacks a 6-0 lead with 3:43 showing in the first quarter. Franklin secured its only lead of the game on Brian Robertson’s two-yard run and McFarlane kick.
Exactly 13 seconds after the Hornets grabbed a lead, Stewart scored on a 65-yard jaunt, helping the Lumberjacks regain the advantage at 12-7 with 9:06 to play before the half. Stewart added a 32-yard score, lifting the Lumberjacks to an 18-7 cushion with 4:03 remaining before the half.
Franklin’s Joseph turned in a heroic performance, racing 45 yards on an a return of a interception, helping the Hornets trim Patterson’s lead to five at 18-13 with four seconds remaining in the second quarter.
The Lumberjacks scored a pair of touchdowns less than one minute apart to open the third quarter, building a huge 33-13 advantage. Stewart raced over on a 37-yard touchdown before Justice Jones hit paydirt from 13 yards, sending the Lumberjacks outfront by the 33-13 cushion with 9:02 showing in the third quarter.
Patterson polished off the huge third quarter when Mark Jones scored on consecutive runs of 77 and 41 yards, giving PHS a 47-13 cushion with 56 seconds left to play in the third stanza.
Franklin’s Brian Robertson tacked on his second TD as the Hornets trailed the Lumberjacks by a 47-19 margin with 8:46 left to play.
Patterson’s Jay Declouette and Deontay Jones scored on a runs of 25 and 16 yards respectively, capping the Lumberjacks’ 62-19 victory over the Hornets.
Patterson, 8-0 and 6-0, rushed for 345 yards on 24 attempts. Franklin (3-6, 2-3) gained 117 yards on 45 rushes.
Brian Robertson led the Hornets in rushing with 62 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns. Micheal Poledore went 3 of 10 passing for 53 yards.
Franklin will play host to the winless Berwick Panthers on Friday in the regular season finale in District 9-3A action at 7 p.m. at J. C. Dry Stadium.
