The series is authored by Patterson resident Rhonda Raymond Dennis.
Born in Morgan City to Mike and Kay Raymond, Dennis is a 1992 Patterson High School graduate and a graduate of Nicholls State University. She is the wife of Doyle Dennis.
The first book in the series is titled “Going Home.” Set in Green Bayou, La., the series follows the tumultuous life of paramedic Emily Boudreaux.
In the first book, Emily is looking for a change of pace. She moves from New Orleans, only to discover that small town life doesn't guarantee tranquility. She's stalked by an ex-partner, torn between two loves and trying to fit in at her new job. Just when she thinks she's found her niche, the real drama begins.
“‘Awakenings’ starts where Going Home ends,” Dennis says of the second novel. “If readers think Emily had issues in ‘Going Home,’ just wait until they read the new one! Emily's still being stalked; there's a serious shake-up at the Atchafalaya Parish Sheriff's Department, and Emily's love life, well, it’s Emily so you can bet it’s going to be interesting. There’s a little something for everyone: romance, adventure, suspense and comedy.”
As for some of the similarities to the region, “I take great pride in my culture and heritage,” Dennis said. “I love that I can call the Tri-City area my home. Though the stories and settings in my novels are fictional, I’ve tried to include some of the qualities that make South Louisiana unique.”
“The Green Bayou Novels” are available for purchase in e-book format for Kindle and Nook, as well as print through Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble stores. Signed copies can be purchased locally at Marilyn's Hallmark Store in Morgan City.
