Pianist to perform Saturday in Morgan City

A benefit concert with pianist, the Rev. Sean Duggan will be held Saturday beginning with Duggan as the guest organist at the 4:30 p.m. Vigil Mass for the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City as part of the celebration of “The Year of Faith.”

It will then continue at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City for a dinner concert at 6 p.m. benefiting St. Joseph Abbey.

Tickets have already been sold out.

Duggan is a Benedictine monk of St. Joseph’s Abbey in Covington,

An essay contest was offered for music students in the Morgan City area.

Bailey Guidroz of Berwick High School won the contest and will attend the event with her teacher, Walter Sheppard of Berwick High School, as special guests

“This will not only be a good event for St. Joseph Abbey but a great event for Morgan City,” said the Rev. Greg Fratt of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Duggan is a two-time winner of the J.S. Bach International Piano competition in Washington, D.C. (1983 and 1991). He celebrated the tercentenary of Bach’s birth in 1985 by giving complete performances of Bach’s The Well-tempered Clavier in several American cities and has toured extensively in Europe. He is currently a professor of piano at SUNY-Fredonia.
