State Police said Fields was driving west on La. 28 around 9 p.m. Sunday night when he struck 29-year-old Erica L. Terrell of Pineville, who was walking in the right lane.
The accident occurred near Trinity Church Road.
Terrell was pronounced dead at the scene. Fields was not injured in the crash.
Routine toxicology tests are pending, and the crash remains under investigation.
