St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported one arrest this morning.

Israel Vazquez Garza, 25, of 747-B Cypress St., Amelia, was arrested Wednesday at 7:10 a.m. on warrants charging him with simple battery, simple robbery, aggravated assault with a vehicle on a police officer, aggravated second degree battery, reckless operation of a vehicle, flight from an officer, two counts simple criminal damage to property, second degree kidnapping and driving without a lawful presence in the country.

A deputy responded to a complaint on Waterworks Drive in Amelia. Upon arrival the deputy learned from the complainant that a battery had taken place. During the course of the investigation the deputy learned that Garza allegedly forced a female victim at gunpoint into a vehicle and drove to Waterworks Drive where he struck her, took her mobile phone and left in the vehicle. The victim sustained bruises, black eyes and a cut on her lip.

The deputy located the suspect vehicle on Lake Palourde Road and attempted to make contact with Garza. After attempting to make contact with the suspect multiple times, Garza reportedly put the vehicle in gear striking a deputy and a sheriff’s office unit. The deputy sustained a laceration on his finger. Garza then fled to his residence on Cypress Street where he was taken into custody.

No bond has been set.

Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the arrest of David Landry, 24, of Percy Street, Franklin, Wednesday at 6:07 p.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to appear on traffic charges. He was held on $210 bond.

A female juvenile, age 13, and two male juveniles, also age 13, were arrested Wednesday on charges of disturbing the peace by fighting. All were released to guardians pending juvenile court.

Chitimacha Police Chief Blaise Smith reported the arrest of Brandy Simmons, 30, of Charenton, at 12:30 a.m. today on warrants charging her with failure to appear on charges of DWI and issuing worthless checks. No bond was set.
