Ten reports of vehicle burglaries Sunday night in Auburn Subdivision were received by the Morgan City Police Department.

Chief Marc Folse said in every instance the vehicles were unlocked and were rifled through for small items.

So far this year there have been two cycles of such activity in the city that lasted about a week each, the chief said.

Vehicle break-ins increase around holidays and major shopping seasons. Because there are still gifts in cars and items being hauled to stores for returns, it still is considered the shopping season for criminals, Folse said.

Locking vehicles deters these thieves, he reminded citizens.
