Pontiff (1-0) earned the mound win after firing three complete innings, not allowing a run nor a hit while striking out two batters. Champagne worked the final four frames, not surrendering a hit nor a run with six strikeouts and two walks. Pontiff and Champagne combined on the pitching gem for the Lady Tiger.
Hanson scored its four runs over six frames with one in the first and third innings along with two insurance runs in the sixth inning.
HMS’ Kim Sonnier lifted the Lady Tigers to a 1-0 run in the initial period. Sonnier, who led the Lady Tigers in batting with a 2 for 3 effort, ripped a two-out double. Lady Tiger Paige Diamond plated Sonnier with a RBI-double, giving HMS a 1-0 lead.
Diamond crossed home plate in the bottom half of the third frame after reaching on a fielder’s choice. Diamond advanced to third base prior to Mallory Chaisson and Macy Simoneaux reaching to load the bases. Emily Sonnier delivered Diamond with an RBI single as HMS cruised to a 2-0 advantage in the third frame.
Hanson’s Brittany Broussard and Katie Sonnier tagged home plate in the bottom of the sixth frame on Mallory Chaisson’s two-RBI single giving HMS a 4-0 lead.

Hanson (2-0) will play host to Catholic High of New Iberia on Thursday at 4 p.m.
