West St. Mary Port commissioners are taking the first steps to updating its 11-year-old master plan document.

Executive Director David Allain pointed out that the document was last revised in the year 2000. He noted that many changes have occurred at the port since then, including building a water system and acquisition of much new property and tenants.

Patrick A. Owens, assistant vice president of Volker Inc., was on hand to offer the firm’s services to update the plan, working closely with the port and Miller Engineers and Associates. The commission agreed to proceed with a scope of work review and estimated cost.

Also Tuesday, the commission approved renovations to the office’s restrooms and storage rooms by DDA Construction of Franklin.

The commission passed a resolution of respect for Leon and David Ortemond, owners of D&L Salvage, who were killed in a boating accident last month.
