Probe continues in crossing guard's death

VIDRINE – Investigation continues into circumstances surrounding an accident that killed a school crossing guard Thursday.

State Police said Evangeline Deputy John Granger, 60, of Reddll was hit by a car driven by Kimberly Fontenot, 19, of Mamou after she droveinto the path of a SUV driven by Arleen Soileau, 50, of Ville Platte.

Fontenot’s car spun after the impact and hit Granger, who was directing traffic at La. 10 and La. 376. He had been a reserve deputy for about three and a half years, authorities said.

Granger was directing traffic at Vidrine Elementary when struck.

Fontenot and Soileau were treated for minor injuries.

Troopers were unable to say why Fontenot drove into the path of Soileau’s vehicle.
