Pusateri has been the clerk for almost 28 years since the Home Rule Charter that created the position went into effect in 1984. At the time, she had worked for the parish since 1978 in the Public Works Department. The resignation will be effective on July 6.
“After 34 years of service to the parish I feel that it is now time for me to pursue other interests and opportunities,” Pusateri read to the council from her written resignation letter. “My years of public service have been very rewarding and I have enjoyed assisting the public and furthering my knowledge of governmental operations.”
After giving her a standing ovation, the councilmen all expressed their gratitude for Pusateri’s service that they said she has carried out with professionalism and efficiency.
Chief Administrative Officer Henry “Bo” LaGrange called her the parish historian.
“If she didn’t have the answer she knew where to find it,” he said.
“It’s been amazing how you can keep 11 boys straight,” said Councilman Ken Singleton, District 5, referring to the council.
He then moved to appoint Lisa Morgan as the new clerk and received a second by Councilman Logan Fromenthal, District 6. The motion was approved unanimously.
Morgan is currently an administrative assistant with the City of Morgan City, according to Pusateri. She will begin her new position on July 7.
In other business the council:
—Heard from parish President Paul Naquin that funding for dredging of Bayou Teche from Baldwin to Calumet estimated at about $20 million will not likely be available any time soon from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. However, he said, in recent talks with Col. Ed. Fleming, New Orleans District commander, he has stressed that the condition of the bayou is having an impact on flooding. He said he would continue to discuss the issue with congressional delegates and explore options such as the possibility of purchasing farm acreage to dispose of the dredged spoil.
—Passed resolutions on a permit renewal application on the Harold J. “Babe” Landry Landfill and support for Senate Bill 532 related to ground water use from the Chicot Aquifer.
—Approved recommendations by the Planning & Zoning Commission that include subdivisions of property into two tracts by Michael Champagne of Medric Martin estate property at 2516 Irish Bend Road, Franklin; and by Nicky Begnaud at 138 Peninsula Drive, Cypremort Point.
—Approved a request by Councilman David Hanagriff, District 3, to transfer $3,500 in three-tenths sales collections from Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 10 to the City of Franklin for Dixie Youth Baseball.
—Referred requests for funding assistance to the St. Mary Soil and Water Conservation District and St. Mary Landmarks to the next meeting on April 25.
—Reappointed Carl McAllister and Scott Verret to the E-911 Communications District board; and John Higdon, Larry LeBlanc and Ulysses Knight to Fire Protection District 2.
—Approved an engineering service contract with T. Baker Smith LLC on seaway improvements funded by federal and state grants at Harry P. Williams Memorial Airport.
